About Fresh Start

Fresh Start is a non-profit organization that serves recovering addicts.  We serve both walk-in clients, and clients who are referred by other agencies. Our recovery homes are located in the Kensington and Harrowgate sections of Philadelphia.  We pair each new client up with a "buddy" as soon as they arrive to help them in their early transition to our facility.

We also accept "dual-diagnosis" clients as well as clients who only speak Spanish.

We proudly offer our clients safe housing in a structured, sober environment. All our buildings are thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis.  This results in a healthy, values-based environment that enhances recovery. Clients are provided with all the personal amenities of home that are needed for everyday life.  Our facilities also contain large screen TV's and weight rooms.  We provide balanced nutritional food.

Fresh Start is a Behavior Modification program.  Our rules and regulations are designed to show our clients how they can replace previous undesirable behaviors with positive ones.  Residents are placed on a contract for negative behavior such as loss of weekend passes or other privileges.  We reward positive behavior.

All our facilities are frequently inspected by the City of Philadelphia, the Veterans Administration, and the Consumer Satisfaction Team.  We have become the benchmark for recovery housing in the City of Philadelphia

Fresh Start has a case-management component which differs from anything offered by other recovery-based recovery living facilities in Philadelphia. Fresh Start supervisors and staff work very diligently to motivate and educate the clients we serve. Fresh Start case mangers focus on the social, medical, mental health, employment, financial, and legal issues that go "hand-in-hand" with an addiction. This is done by collaborating with other community-based organizations to provide the best possible care available to our clients.  Utilization of this comprehensive "holistic" model helps us obtain success with our clients.

All Fresh Start employees must attend college level courses and complete the requirements to achieve AAC1 or AAC2 certification.  AAC1 requires 100 hours of education; 100 hours of supervised employment and 1000 hours of paid employment.  AAC2 requires 200 hours of education, 200 hours of supervised employment and 2000 hours of paid employment.  Fresh Start employees are also required to attend classes on the premises given by qualified staff members.  We also provide recurring CPR training.
